Spotlight: Starting a Digital Entomology Lab at K-State

C. Mike Smith, professor in the Department of Entomology, has been working with a small team to create the foundational photos for a Digital Entomology Lab, which will enhance learning in online entomology courses and which may also serve as a stand-alone digital laboratory resource.

The following slideshow highlights some of the initial work. This shows how different types of equipment, software, and processes inform the development work.

To access the Digital Entomology Lab site, go to www.entomology.k-state.edu/p.aspx?tabid=1. In the left column, go to “Extension”, then “Insect Photo Gallery”, and finally the “Digital Entomology Lab” tab to see the current images.

He is currently a subject editor for The Journal of Economic Entomology and Arthropod Plant Interactions, and author of three host plant resistance textbooks, the most recent being Plant Resistance to Arthropods:  Molecular and Conventional Approaches. He has taught General Entomology at K-State since 2000.
