What’s the big-cat name for my Mac operating system?

Many Mac users don’t know how to find the big-cat name of their Mac operating system (click the Apple icon, select About This Mac, and the More Info button). For faster reference, use this list of OS X 10 versions and big-cat codenames.

OS X — Codename
10.0 — Cheetah
10.1 — Puma
10.2 — Jaguar
10.3 — Panther
10.4 — Tiger
10.5 — Leopard
10.6 — Snow Leopard
10.7 — Lion
10.8 — Mountain Lion

See Wikipedia’s “OS X Version” table (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_X#Versions) for details, including all OS versions, release dates, latest updates (10.7.5, for example), and links to more information.

Trivia note: “Clouded Leopard” and “Sunda Clouded Leopard” are the only remaining names available to use in the big-cat family, as shown in Wikipedia’s species (and genus) list of big cats.
