“Mac 101″ seminar Monday, Sept. 13

Bought a new Mac? Interested in the basics of the Mac OS X? Make plans to attend a Mac 101 session 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in Room 207 of the K-State Student Union. See the attached Mac 101 flier (PDF) for more information.

Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows available today

Office 2010 for Windows was released to the public today by Microsoft.

Office 2010 Professional is being offered locally for $499.99 at Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, and Target.

Students and faculty/staff can save money and get Office 2010 Professional Plus for only $79.95 under the K-State Student Select program by presenting their current K-State ID at the K-State Student Union Computer Store. The software is in stock and available now. Office 2010 Professional Plus contains the same programs (and more) as the Office 2010 Professional version being offered at retail for hundreds more dollars.

Apple back-to-school special runs through Sept. 7

It is “Back to School” time and through Tuesday, Sept. 7, Apple is offering a free iPod after mail-in rebate with the purchase of a qualifying Mac for Higher Education students, faculty/staff, and K-12 employees. This is in addition to Apple’s everyday education pricing.

With the purchase of a qualifying Mac, get your choice of a 4GB iPod shuffle; 8GB or 16GB iPod nano; or an 8GB iPod touch for free after mail-in rebate. Other iPod models qualify, but the maximum rebate is $199.

In addition, the Union Computer Store is running an in-store special that sweetens the deal by letting customers add an HP F4480 All-in-One printer (copy/print/scan) for 99 cents with their Mac purchase. And that includes a 6-foot USB cable!

Microsoft, Adobe products added to Student Select program

New Microsoft and Adobe software titles have been added to the K-State Student Select Software program available at the K-State Student Union Computer StoreTo see programs included in each title, a printable price list, and FAQs, see the Student Select PDF.

All titles require a current K-State ID for purchasing and are available to faculty/staff, students, and emeriti. Distance students, employees of local agencies (K-State Student Union, Athletics, Foundation, etc.), and satellite campuses and workplaces (i.e. Extension) are included. Alumni and employees of K-State affiliates are not eligible.

All titles are limited to “1 user – 2 computers” and licensing terms state they are for your own personal educational use, and not for resale.  All titles are distributed on a CD/DVD and each package includes its own unique activation key.

Apple iPad released; in stock at Union Computer Store

On Saturday, April 3, Apple released the iPad. It features a 9.7-inch high-resolution screen, weighs 1.5 pounds, and has up to 10 hours of battery life per charge.

The iPad comes in two models — Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi +3G (shipping late April).   Both models are available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities.

Those familiar with the iPod touch and iPhone will feel right at home with the iPad, as it uses the same touch-based operating system. Novices will find it simple to use as well.  More info is available at www.apple.com/ipad.

iPhone 3G service plan discounts for K-State faculty/staff

With the recent opening of AT&T stores and availability of service in Manhattan, K-State employees who purchase an iPhone 3G for personal use are eligible to receive a 15 percent discount on the monthly service charge on qualified voice and data plans. The new Adobe CS4 products, on the Student Select plan, recently arrived at the K-State Student Union Computer Store and are now available for purchase.  Adobe claims a savings of up to 80% off retail prices.

Parallels Student Select now available at the Union Computer Store

Parallels Desktop for Mac, an OS Virtualization software, is now available on the Student Select Program at the K-State Student Union Computer Store for $39.95. Regular retail is $79.95.

This software allows you to run a variety of operating systems on your Mac without rebooting.

Adobe announces CS4

On September 23, 2008 Adobe announced the upcoming release of Creative Suite 4 (CS4) family of products, which is exptected to begin shipping at the end of October.

Among the products available will be Design Standard CS4, Design Premium CS4, Web Standard CS4, Web Premium CS4, Production Premium CS4, and Master Collection CS4, as well as a number of individual titles.
