Information Technology Services updating K-State sign-in

On Dec. 22, Information Technology Services will be making changes to the authentication system that K-Staters use to access some IT resources. When accessing Webmail, K-Staters will see a new progress screen that shows the Kansas State University wordmark and a spinning wheel.

The new authentication step is necessary to bring IT systems online, such as Microsoft’s OneDrive and Office for home and personal use.

Microsoft makes iOS Office apps free

The apps include mobile versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. To access the editing features, log into the apps with a Microsoft account (Live or Hotmail account), which can be freely created at www.live.com. Previously users would have needed an Office 365 subscription to edit within the iOS Office apps.

Office 365 email-retention settings go into effect April 11

Office 365 retention settings will be activated on the evening of Friday, April 11. Assistance for students who need to upgrade their computer from Windows XP

Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP Service Pack 3 on April 8.  This means that there will be no new security updates or support through Microsoft. After this date, your computer may be more vulnerable to security risks and may be blocked from accessing the K-State network.

Microsoft stops support April 8 for Windows XP and Office 2003

Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Office 2003 on April 8, 2014.  This means no new security updates or assisted support through Microsoft. After this date, your computer may be more vulnerable to security risks.

‘Introduction to Office 365’ sessions scheduled

Information Technology Services will begin offering “Introduction to Office 365” sessions beginning Oct. 31. These sessions will run until the end of November and will include an overview of the migration process and basic use of the new email and calendaring system. Wunderlist is a wonderful to-do app

A little Caffeine for your Mac (so it doesn’t go to sleep)

Have you ever wanted to make sure that your Mac would not go to sleep on you during a presentation or in the middle of watching a webcast? A neat little free tool is available in the Mac App Store that does just that. Windows 8 preview sessions in February and March

The Information Technology Assistance Center will be offering several Windows 8 preview sessions for faculty, staff, and students who are interested in the new operating system released by Microsoft. Come learn about the new user interface, tips, tricks, and have your questions answered. These sessions will be held:

  1. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Hale Library Room 301
  2. Tuesday, Feb. 26, noon-1 p.m. in Hale Library Room 301
  3. Thursday, March 7, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Hale Library Room 301
  4. Friday, March 15, noon-1 p.m. in Hale Library Room 301
