Duo student spring enrollment was a success

During the spring semester, K-State began enrolling students in Duo two-factor authentication. Login credentials are more valuable than ever and are increasingly easy to compromise. Over 90% of breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords.

Duo student enrollment continues through April

K-State student enrollment in Duo began in February and should be complete before the end of April. During the enrollment process, students are randomly added to enrollment groups. When you receive your enrollment email, follow the instructions, enroll in Duo, and set up your authentication device.

You need to complete your enrollment within two weeks of receiving the email. Enrollment usually takes less than five minutes and requires a laptop or desktop computer and a mobile device for self-enrollment. For step-by-step enrollment instructions, view the Duo Enrollment Guide.

Thank you, students, for enrolling before your deadline expires. Because of your diligence, the enrollment process will be completed before finals. Once you have enrolled in Duo, you will continue to have the extra layer of security for as long as you remain a student at K-State.

Duo two-factor enrollment begins Feb. 15

Cybersecurity is a significant concern in our technology-driven world, and K-State must be more vigilant. Unfortunately, over 90% of breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords. To keep your personal information safe, K-State offers Duo two-factor authentication to provide a second layer of security for your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password.

What do I need to do?

On Feb. 15, K-State will begin enrolling students in Duo two-factor authentication. Students have been randomly added to enrollment groups, so you may receive your enrollment email in February, March, or April. When you receive your enrollment email, follow the instructions in the email and enroll in Duo, and set up your authentication device. You need to complete your enrollment within two weeks of receiving the email. Duo student enrollment begins Feb. 15

On Feb. 15, K-State will begin enrolling students in Duo two-factor authentication. This is a big undertaking for the university, and your help is needed in spreading the word about enrollment. When you meet with students, please take a moment, and remind them to sign up for Duo.

Students have been randomly placed into different enrollment groups. Over the next few months, students will receive an email when it is time for the group to enroll. Students must follow the instructions in the email and enroll in Duo within two weeks of receiving the email. After two weeks, if a student fails to enroll, they will be unable to use K-State’s online applications and systems until they enroll in Duo. Enroll in Duo now for a chance to win a pair of Apple AirPods

Take a study break and enroll in Duo two-factor authentication! To keep your personal information safe, K-State offers Duo as a second layer of security for your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. Early Duo enrollment is now through Jan. 13. Students who enroll early will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Apple AirPods.

During the early enrollment event, K-State will give away 20 pairs of Apple AirPods. To learn more about the incentive prizes, view K-State’s Duo website. The 20 winners will be drawn on Feb. 1, 2023.

On Feb. 15, 2023, mandatory Duo two-factor authentication enrollment will begin. All students must use Duo when they sign into K-State’s tools and services, including webmail and KSIS. At this time, Canvas will not be included.

Duo Mobile end-of-life for Android 8/9 and iOS 13

Effective February 9, 2023, Duo Mobile will no longer support Android 8 or 9 and iOS 13.

What is changing?

Google and Apple deploy new operating systems (OS) as major releases every year. As part of these release cycles, older Android and iOS operating systems stop receiving important updates and go through end-of-service and end-of-life phases. To anticipate these OS deprecations, Duo will no longer support Duo Mobile on Android 8 or 9 and iOS 13. Duo Mobile will continue to be fully supported on iOS 14, Android 10, or newer. Students can enroll in Duo beginning on Nov. 7

During the spring semester of 2019, K-State faculty, staff, and some student employees began using Duo two-factor authentication as a second layer of security for the university’s online applications and systems.

Now K-State is offering Duo for all students! Early student enrollment is from Nov. 7 through Jan. 13. During the spring 2023 semester, Duo enrollment will be mandatory for all students.

To enroll in Duo, students must complete a short Qualtrics survey. After completing the survey, students will receive an enrollment email within three business days with details about how to enroll in Duo.

If you work directly with students, please encourage them to enroll in Duo. During early enrollment, students have the opportunity to win incentive prizes.
