Live SecureIT a success; more training in December

Last Friday was the first offering of the live edition of “SecureIT @ Kansas State”, the K-State presentation created to fulfill the requirement that all State of Kansas employees be given cybersecurity training by June 30, 2011.

With 102 employees in attendance, the IT security team considers this first session a great success and will offer two more sessions in December.

While the majority of K-State employees are expected to take the online training that will be available at the end of the semester, these live trainings are a great alternative for employees who would like to be able to ask questions, or who don’t spend the majority of their work time behind a computer.

iSIS Upgrade: What about My Favorites?

Will “My Favorites” from iSIS be carried over during the coming upgrade?

The items in My Favorites, which are personally bookmarked iSIS links, will be copied from the current version of iSIS into the upgraded iSIS. However, note the following exceptions, which will not be copied when any My Favorites item:

  • No longer exists due to a change in functionality
  • Location has been changed
  • Name has been changed

For more about My Favorites in iSIS, see the Adding Favorites short video.

iSIS Upgrade: You’re doing this when?!?

The iSIS upgrade will occur from 5 p.m. Nov 19 through 5 p.m. Nov 24, during that time iSIS will be unavailable.

Why is iSIS being upgraded in the middle of the semester?  The upgrade is occurring in the middle of the semester during fall break because the business-operation demand for iSIS is at its lowest when classes are not in session. No classes will be held the week of the upgrade, so the process interruption is expected to be at its lowest for the year.

The end and beginning of the semesters are unusually busy times for academic departments and administrative units as they close one semester and prepare to open another. The upgrade must be completed prior to Summer 2011 so that K-State can continue to comply with regulatory requirements.

eID password deadline Wednesday, Sept. 8 (fall 2010)

verifyWednesday, Sept. 8, is the fall-semester deadline for changing passwords on K-State eIDs. The university’s mandatory password change each fall and spring applies to individual eIDs as well as group eIDs.

It’s now a bit easier to select a password, thanks to the improved process that confirms when a valid password choice is being typed in (see the confirmation image below). Remember that passwords can also be longer (up to 30 characters) and can include blank spaces. Continue reading “eID password deadline Wednesday, Sept. 8 (fall 2010)”
