Upgrades in MDC include 64-bit systems, Windows 7

In mid-January, all 18 PCs and 6 Macs in the Media Development Center (213 Hale Library) were upgraded from 32-bit systems to 64-bit systems. As a result, K-Staters will see significant improvements in processing speed, not to mention the other software upgrades made at the same time.

PCs in the center were updated to the Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft Office Suite 2010, and Adobe Creative Software Suite 5. The 64-bit systems also allow PC users to take advantage of new features in Windows 7.

Microsoft Campus Agreement

Information Technology Services has procured a Microsoft Campus Agreement to provide faculty and staff access to Microsoft’s operating systems and the Microsoft Office Suite for all university-owned computers. The products covered under the agreement include:

  • Microsoft Operating System – for Mac and Windows environments
  • Microsoft Office Suite – for Mac and Windows environments
  • Core CAL Suite

Technical support staff in units across campus were sent an e-mail with this information and given access to the K-State Online space that provides the media files and documentation about the Microsoft Campus Agreement. For technical support staff who did not receive the e-mail, contact the IT Help Desk, helpdesk@k-state.edu, 785-532-7722.

New events posted on IT Training site

Upcoming training events have been posted on the IT Training site. All classes are free for K-State faculty, staff, and graduate students, but require pre-registration. Details are on the specific registration pages. Courses include:

  • Overview of  Zimbra Calendar
  • Various K-State Online classes
  • Introduction to Access 2007
  • Basic Functions in Excel 2007

Microsoft Office training: 2 more classes, 1 time change

In addition to the Microsoft Office training classes advertised last week, the following class changes have occurred:

  1. Added: Beginning Word 2007 class, 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, in Fairchild 9A
  2. Time change: Intermediate Word 2007 class has been rescheduled from Wednesday, June 30, to Friday, July 2
  3. Added: Introduction to Access 2007 class, 9-11 a.m. Friday, July 9, in Fairchild 9A

Microsoft Office online training available, and more

Self-paced Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 (PCs) and Office 2004 and 2008 (Macs) courses are available online for all K-State faculty and staff. Also offered are courses on IT Security and Business Communications, as well as online technical references on a wide variety of topics. The tutorials are free, but registration for online tutorials is required for access.

iTAC to begin Microsoft Office training in August

iTAC is developing training for Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft Excel 2007 to begin in August. To design effective training sessions, we need to know the features that are important to you. Take a few minutes and complete the Microsoft Office Training Needs Survey to let us know which features in the Office Suite you use most and which applications to include in our training offerings.
