Third annual Shred Day yields 3.8 tons of paper

The third annual Shred Day, Oct. 16 on the Manhattan and Salina campuses, was a success. Document Resources Inc. collected 7,620 pounds of paper products – about 3.8 tons – from 34 departments. University shred days: Oct. 19 Manhattan campus, Nov. 2 Salina campus

K-State’s All University Shred Day is

  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, on the K-State-Manhattan campus
  • 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Nov. 2, on the K-State-Salina campus

Departments can place their paper documents with personal identity information (Social Security numbers, birth dates, credit card numbers, etc.) in designated bags and deliver to one of two locations — Mid Campus Drive near the Union, or the Dole Hall parking lots. Empty bags can be picked up at the iTAC Receptionist Desk in 214 Hale Library. The campus shred day authorization form (PDF) must be completed.

Reminder: University Shred Day is Tuesday, Oct. 19

K-State is planning a University Shred Day 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 for university paper records. Departments will be asked to place their paper documents with personal identity information (Social Security numbers, birth dates, credit card numbers, etc.) in designated bags and deliver to one of two locations: the median near Anderson Hall or the Dole Hall parking lots.

Departments that cannot bring their documents to the designated areas may contact iTAC at 785-532-4918 to schedule a time and location for pick-up. For security reasons, do not leave collection bags for shredding unattended in the hallways.

University Shred Day on Oct. 19

K-State is planning a University Shred Day for university paper records 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. Departments will be asked to place their paper documents with personal identity information (Social Security numbers, birth dates, credit card numbers, etc.)  in designated bags to be delivered to one of two trucks located on campus. If departments can’t bring their documents, iTAC staff will be available for pickup. Please do not leave bags for shredding unattended in the hallways.

Documents to shred include Scantron forms; greenbar grade sheets; rosters printed from K-State Online, iSIS, SIS, etc.; student papers with personal identity information and grades; data with credit card information; personnel files; and more.

This signature wall art is constructed with found TV backs and handkerchiefs. It is 39 feet wide, 16 feet high, and 2 feet deep.

Departments: Use university procedures when disposing of IT equipment

With the announcement of the “Free Recycling for Education” program offered by Apple in last week’s InfoTech Tuesday newsletter, Harvard Townsend, chief information security officer, and Fran Willbrant, university controller, would like to remind campus departments that university procedures must be followed before utilizing this service.

Free, used computers and other hardware available through June 2

The deadline has been extended one day, so 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, is the last day to browse through the free, used computers, printers, and other hardware available from iTAC. For more information, see the June 25 article in InfoTech Tuesday.

Free, used computers and more available to departments

iTAC is in the process of removing some hardware from university computing labs, technology classrooms, and other offices around campus — and making the equipment available to interested K-State units. Some of the equipment is in working order, some is not. All equipment is available at no cost to the receiving units.

Apple offers free computer recycling for educational institutions

Chris Loehr, manager of the Union Computer Store, reports that Apple has implemented a “Free Recycling for Education” program this year for all accredited K–12 and higher education institutions. A minimum of 25 pieces of equipment is required to participate in the program, which runs through Aug. 31. For more information, see www.apple.com/education/recycling.
