EDUCAUSE 2010 resources now online

For all who missed the EDUCAUSE Online conference that was hosted at Kansas State University on Oct. 13-15:

You can now access some of the conference resources including PowerPoint presentations, podcasts, streamed sessions, and a social media summary.

The full collection of the online conference streamed sessions is available on the Private Session Recordings webpage. (Note it says “private sessions resources are available exclusively to registered participants for three months or until January 6, 2011.”)

Although not all sessions are available, it is hoped you will be able to benefit from this resource.

Spotlight: Temple Grandin, Ken Robinson videos available online

Videos are now available online from two recent presentations at K-State by world-famous authors.

Temple Grandin’s “Animals and Autism” presentation Tuesday evening, Nov. 9, was delivered to an estimated 1,400 people who overflowed both Forum Hall and the Union Ballroom, not to mention reportedly thousands of online attendees.  The presentation is posted in two videos on the blog site of Food for Thought, the student group that sponsored the talk.

IDT Roundtable Nov. 18: Dramatized Videos for Higher Education

The last IDT Roundtable presentation of the fall series will be 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Room 212 of the K-State Student Union by Brent Anders, electronic media coordinator in the Office of Mediated Education.

The use of drama within a course video can go a long way toward explaining or simply motivating. Content, subjects, and topics can be that much more understandable and real through the use of drama. Do you use dramatized videos in your class? Bring your ideas and examples to the presentation and share with your peers.

TechBytes Nov. 11: Presentation Tools

Neal Wollenberg and Vernon Turner will present “Presentation Tools” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in 401B Hale Library. This session will cover designing effective presentations using Prezi and PowerPoint 2010.

iPad video online; iPad User Group meets Nov. 9

Six million iPads have been sold in the past six months, said Dennis Devenney at the Oct. 7 iPad presentation at TechBytes. K-Staters interested in learning more about Apple’s popular iPad can now view the iPad video presentation (76 minutes), where Devenney covers:

  • iPad setups, features, and security
  • Social aspects (is it a fad? Apple and Google are betting “no”)
  • Comparisons with similar technology now on the market (or coming soon)
  • Applications and productivity tools
  • Initial costs and recommended peripherals
  • How the iPad fits in education

TechBytes Nov. 4: Digital Cameras

Gerry Snyder and Russ Feldhausen will present “Digital Cameras” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in 401B Hale Library. This session will give an overview on the types of digital cameras that are available and tips on how to get the best use out of the cameras.
