A Transformational K-State Experience
By: Whitney Morgan (’12)
As a current English teacher in Kansas City, Kansas, I have been enjoying the additional time for reflection that summer brings. With the Staley School of Leadership Studies (SSLS) celebrating its 20th year, many of these reflections have been on my own undergraduate experience and engagement in the Staley School. My name is Whitney Morgan, and I am a Nonprofit Leadership Studies minor, class of 2012. When asked to serve on a committee for the School’s 20th Year Engagement Initiative, there was no question that I wanted to give back to a program that gave so much to me.

More Than a Program—It’s a Family
Whenever someone mentions the Staley School of Leadership Studies, my face lights up! For me, it truly felt like a second home (and not because SSLS started out as Leadership Studies and Programs in two houses located on Manhattan Avenue). When I think about why I support the Staley School of Leadership Studies, I can’t help but think back to my time at K-State — when the program itself was still an idea, a vision of what could be. 2017 marks the 20th year of leadership studies at Kansas State University!
Since 1997, we have engaged with students in ways that help develop and cultivate their leadership capacity. All who have been involved with us throughout our first 20 years have helped make up our foundation, and in this celebratory year, we’re looking to connect with more alumni, supporters, and friends!
