KS-LSAMP upcoming events | As of 3.3.2016

Hello KS-LSAMP students there are several upcoming events that can count as participation in the KS-LSAMP Scholar program. Remember you will need a total of 3 events to advance to Silver Scholar status and have the opportunity to apply for scholarships.The scholarship deadline for Spring 2016 is April 4, 2016. There is still plenty of time for you to advance to the next LSAMP scholar level. Below, please see a list of some of  the upcoming events:

Leadership Studies Room, 113
Interested in what you can do outside the classroom? Listen to current K-State students talk abut how and why they got involved on campus and how they manage their schedules to avoid over-involvement. Registration not required. Attendance at this event would fall into the professional development category.

Networking
March 29, 2016
4:00 – 5:00 pm
Leadership Studies, Room 127
Wondering why you should invest time in networking? We will discuss some of the benefits of networking and ways you can get started. Co-hosted by Career & Employment Services. Attendance at this event would fall into the professional development category.

Please remember that if you attend an approved event you must submit a short summary including 1) why you chose to attend the event and 2) what you learned as a result of attending the event (total 500 words for both questions). Your responses can be sent to breneek@ksu.edu and Dr. King will mark you down as participating that event.

Study Abroad 101 Session

Study Abroad 101 is an introductory information session hosted by the Study Abroad Office. During these sessions we cover the step-by-step process of how to get started with study abroad and include information about programs, scholarships, and financial aid. Attendance at this event would fall into the academic/professional development category.

Life Skills Lesson 3

This Life Skills Series will help you build/strengthen your resilience in order to help you approach and bypass the roadblocks you may face in life. These sessions are free and pre-registration is not required.  Session 3 will focus on increasing your resilience by strengthening your TOLERANCE FOR FRUSTRATION. You will learn some mind/body skills in this session.  The same presentation is offered at the two different times/locations listed above. Attendance at this event would fall into the personal development category.

Empowering Women to be Leaders Worldwide: Overcoming political and Social Struggles

Communicating your Research to the Public
March 9, 2016

How do you explain your research or scholarly work to your family, friends, and the general public who are not experts in your field of study? Explaining your work and why it is important in a way that the general public and even academics from other disciplines can understand can be very challenging. Attend this session to receive guidance from a panel of professionals on how to present technical information in an easy to understand manner, learn why it is important to communicate your research to the general public, and have your questions answered. Attendance at this event would fall into the academic/professional development category.
