February: The Month of Love

The month of February is all about love—a typical image is that of a boyfriend or girlfriend, husband and wife, relationships—but during this month at Smurthwaite, it’s all about growing closer as a house. Valentine’s Day reminds us that we are all loved and are surrounded by women who care deeply for us.

Flowers from Smith House

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, the women of the house received flowers from our brother house, Smith House! They were gorgeous and we loved them. Also, a boyfriend of one of the women here sent flowers to the house, one for every single woman! It was a lovely gesture, and the flowers were wonderful.

As always, Valentine’s Day included

Valentine’s Day box

a tradition here at Smurthwaite, where each room decorates a box for Valentine’s cards. Every woman in the house can buy or make cards for everyone else, and deliver them throughout the week of Valentine’s. This is a fun way to express our love and friendship to the other women in the house and make others smile.

Another tradition at Smurthwaite is New Member Sneak, where all of the new members of the house “disappear” for 24 hours, (hopefully) without the old members knowing. This year’s sneak was very sneaky, and the old members only found out after everyone was gone! New member sneak is a fun way for the new member class to bond and get to know each other better all while taking a fun trip to somewhere out of town.

New Member Sneak

The month of February reminded the women at Smurthwaite how much we are truly appreciated, and that we are lucky to be surrounded by such intelligent, beautiful young ladies every day.

With love,

Your Smurthwaite Sisters
