Garmin executive gives $1 million to Kansas State University engineering expansion

min_kao_340x220MANHATTAN — Dr. Min Kao, of Garmin International Inc., has made a $1 million gift to create four labs in the Phase IV building addition at the Kansas State University College of Engineering.

This latest gift is above and beyond the more than $1 million dollars in contributions that Dr. Kao has previously given in support of the College of Engineering through the sponsorship of electrical engineering and computer science scholarships, as well as improvements to the engineering facilities on campus.

Senior Design Experience

If you had to dream up a design experience for students – what would it look like? What should senior engineering students know? What should they be able to do?

Over the past three years the ECE faculty has wrestled with those questions. They want a design experience that will equip students to enter their professional or academic careers. It should help students take the next step by modeling a design experience.

Ms. Chang Liu was selected to present a poster titled “Avers200_chang.liuage Achievable Throughput in D2D underlay cellular networks” based on her joint work with her adviser Dr. Bala Natarajan at the Simons conference on Networks and Stochastic Geometry, May 18-21, 2015,  hosted by the Mathematics Department and WNCG, University of Texas Austin. She also received a $1200 travel award from the University of Texas to participate in this conference.

UntitledDr. Behrooz Mirafzal, an Associate Professor of ECE department at KSU, received his PhD degree from Marquette University in 2005. From 2005 and 2008, he was with Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, Mequon, WI, as a Senior Development/Project Engineer, where he was involved in research and development related to motor-drive systems. From 2008 to 2011, he was a faculty member at Florida International University, Miami, FL. Since 2011, he has been a faculty member at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. Dr. Caterina Scoglio was invited to speak at the School of Science and Engineering at Tulane University April 17, 2015.

Dr. Bala Natarajan presented an ivited workshop on “5G Wireless Vision-Enabling Technologies” in 2015 Research Week at Gujarat Technological University, India.  He also Presented a lecture on “Baysian Inferencing” for graduate students at A. D. Patel Institute of Technology, India.
