ECC satellite uplink goes digital; videos now in high-def

The Educational Communications Center, K-State’s full-service media production and distribution facility, has upgraded their mobile satellite uplink capabilities to new digital technology and will also upgrade their fixed satellite to digital. The ECC can feed live or taped programs, segments, interviews, or raw footage from anywhere to almost anywhere. It is the only non-commercial entity in Kansas with satellite uplink capabilities.

“The digital satellite broadcast capabilities continue to allow us to provide rapid and widespread uplink distribution to our constituents,” said Robert Nelson, ECC chief engineer. “There is nothing better than digital satellite technology to provide the ability to distribute real-time, high-quality audio and video to a geographically diverse audience.”

Video projects produced by the ECC are now being done in high definition (HD). Upgrading cameras and editing equipment to high definition increases the quality and extends the longevity and shelf life of video projects. Offering HD video production services is a step towards the future, so the video professionals at the ECC can create remote and studio productions for their clients that meet high-end distribution standards.
