Q/A: Teaching and technology tips for faculty?

Where can I find great teaching tips?

See twitter.com/facultyfocus. There are great teaching tidbits in 140 characters and there are links to more information. Check out the April 29 tweet, “Just in time for the end of the semester, tips for protecting yourself against grade appeals (via the @ProfHacker channel, and the ProfHacker blog from the Chronicle of Higher Education).

What technology do you recommend faculty use consistently?

The microphone. Many years ago a wise faculty member reminded me of the importance of being heard. Too often faculty/staff and students believe that even in classrooms with great sound systems, they can be heard without using the microphone. The experience for the audience is vastly improved using the sound system.

Words of wisdom from the same faculty member: Never project images with the lights off. There are many reasons why, especially for those students who read lips — it would be hard to do in the dark.
