Email slowness and outage result of hardware failure

By Ken Stafford

K-State’s email service provider, Merit, experienced a hardware failure Thursday, Sept 27. While many of the mail stores are back up, they will continue through this morning to restore the remaining data.

Multiple disc drives failed in Merit’s storage area network environment that required restoring data onto new drives.

Because of the volume of data, the process required hours to restore. Merit will be providing a detailed report about the hardware failure to information technology services, including their future plans to mitigate a reoccurrence of a service outage.

Information technology services apologizes for this disruption in service.
