Copy and pasting in Windows 8 with touch gestures

In the Windows 8 touch environment, the copying process is different in webpages and programs such as Microsoft Word.  So both methods will be discussed.

Copying from webpages:

  1. Tap on the word you want to select.  The word will highlight and have an open circle on each side of the highlighted word.
  2. Press and drag on either circle to increase or decrease the highlighted area.
  3. Press and hold anywhere in the highlighted area until a box appears.
  4. Release, and Copy will appear in the box.
  5. Tap Copy and the highlighted text will be copied to the clipboard.

Note:  If you want to copy a URL, you need to copy it from the URL box in the browser.  If you tap on a word in a URL that is listed on a webpage, it will launch the URL and not highlight the text.

Copying from programs:

  1. Run your finger over the text you wish to copy and it will highlight.
  2. Press and hold anywhere in the highlighted area until a box appears.
  3. Release, and the box will display some different options (Cut, Copy, Paste, Paragraph, and Lists).
  4. Tap Copy and the highlighted text will be copied to the clipboard.

Once you have your content copied to the clipboard, navigate to the pasting location.

To paste:

  1. Press and hold until a box appears.
  2. Release, and the box will display some different options (Cut, Copy, Paste, Paragraph, and Lists).
  3. Tap Paste and the contents of the clipboard will be pasted to the location.
