Fall 2013 courses needed for learning management system Canvas pilot

by Information Technology Services

This fall Information Technology Services (ITS) is conducting a pilot of Canvas by Instructure. Canvas is a state-of-the-art Learning Management System (LMS) used by many major institutions that offers a variety of powerful and intuitive tools. The pilot will assess the technical and logistical feasibility of using Canvas at K-State.  Instructors who would like to try out Canvas with their students this fall should apply for the Canvas pilot right away.

The pilot is an opportunity to study Canvas and determine if it has the tools necessary to fit the needs of K-State. A decision has not been made on whether to update K-State Online, but only to explore LMS options for the future.

For the pilot, ITS needs Fall 2013 courses that can be placed in Canvas instead of K-State Online. To avoid confusion, an equivalent course in K-State Online will direct students to the Canvas course. Students will not experience any inconvenience while taking a course that is located in Canvas.

Instructors who participate in the pilot will work with ITS to transition their courses to Canvas. Canvas is very similar to K-State Online in many ways but, of course, it is also different. There will be a learning curve and instructors will need to be adaptable in how they run their course. ITS will work closely with instructors and provide support throughout the semester.

If you are interested in trying out a modern, powerful, mobile-friendly and media-rich LMS to help decide if it is right for K-State, complete this simple Canvas pilot application form now.
