NVivo 10 software download and customized online trainings available for K-State faculty/staff and graduate students

Faculty, staff, and graduate students at K-State have a site license for NVivo, a data analysis tool used with qualitative and mixed methods research.  This license gives them free access to this multi-modal data management and analysis tool. Four customized and interactive webinars have been scheduled for Fall Semester 2013.

These training sessions will be offered online by QSR International. In-person sessions may be attended at Hale Library 301 on the following Friday afternoons from 2-4 p.m.

  • Introduction to NVivo 10 (Sept. 20)
  • Importing and Coding Documents and File Management (Oct. 18)
  • Using NVivo for Mixed Methods Research (including Demographic Data) (Nov. 15)
  • Using NVivo for Survey Data (including Social Media Data Extraction and Analysis) (Dec. 13)

Please plan to attend online or in-person, and feel free to bring questions!  More information will be shared about how to participate in the online sessions closer to the actual dates.

NVivo 10 enables researchers to collate, organize, and manage a range of digital data: audio files, videos, photos, texts, and data sets. Users are able to code data and identify themes in their work using various analytical tools. They may memo and annotate digital contents. They may search for and retrieve data; they may link data.

Further, they may use NVivo to create data structure visualizations (spatial diagrams and graphs) and mind maps. A new feature of NVivo 10, called NCapture, enables some limited data extractions from dedicated social media platforms. Finally, users may also use this tool for theory development.

A K-State Campus Site License for NVivo 10

For eligible members, NVivo 10 may be downloaded on both a work machine and a portable computer from the protected site after signing in with their eID/password. To activate the software, users will need the unique K-State license key. The software is only for that individual’s professional and educational use.

Computing System Requirements

The current version of this software runs on PCs with these recommended system requirements. This may also be installed on Macs running virtual machines or parallels.

NVivo 10 Forthcoming for Mac Computers

A Mac version is due out in late 2013; this software version is going through testing currently. At the time of the Mac version release, all those on this K-State site license may download the Mac version as well. More details about that download will be forthcoming closer to the official release date.  Further, there will be trainings on the Mac version of the software in January 2014.
