K-State Mac users advised to hold off on updating to Mavericks operating system

by Austin Polley

The release of the next version of OS X for Macintosh computers, 10.9 Mavericks, is coming soon. The current version of Trend Micro OfficeScan used on campus has some incompatibilities with this new version of OS X. Users are advised to avoid updating to the new OS X when it is released, and to wait until Trend Micro releases a compatible version of OfficeScan.

If users decide to upgrade to the new version anyway, they are advised to first uninstall Trend Micro to avoid any complications during the OS upgrade. An uninstaller utility can be found at the bottom of the Trend Micro Security for Mac OS X webpage.

New laptops that come with OS X 10.9 Mavericks at purchase will have to wait until Trend Micro is updated to be compatible with OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Once the update is released, Information Technology Services will post a notice in K-State Today.
