Assistance for students who need to upgrade their computer from Windows XP

Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP Service Pack 3 on April 8.  This means that there will be no new security updates or support through Microsoft. After this date, your computer may be more vulnerable to security risks and may be blocked from accessing the K-State network.

ResNet and iTAC are teaming up to provide upgrade assistance for student computers that are still running Windows XP.  This assistance includes:​

  • A free assessment of Windows 7 or Windows 8 compatibility for your Windows XP computer.
  • A flat $50 labor charge to upgrade your computer to Windows 7 or Windows 8. (This does not include the OS license, which can be purchased at the Union Computer Store or from other vendors.)

To take advantage of this opportunity, bring your computer to the ResNet Help Desk  at Derby 133A or the IT Help Desk at Hale 214.

After April 8, computers running unsupported operating systems (Windows XP, OS X 10.5, etc.) may be blocked from the K-State network.​

Other operating systems that are not supported and should not be connected to the K-State network include:

  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98
  • Windows 98 SE
  • Windows NT 4
  • Windows 2000

Some Apple operating systems are also not permitted on the K-State network:

  • 10.4 Tiger
  • 10.5 Leopard
  • Apple operating systems older than 10.4
