K-State Online: Automated course creation in Canvas

Canvas_K-StateTodayby Information Technology Services

Automated course creation in Canvas for Fall 2015 is occurring this week. Next week, instructors will be able to access their Fall 2015 courses in Canvas to make any edits or changes they would like. Enrollments in KSIS will be automatically updated in Canvas as they occur.

Previously instructors manually initiated the process in KSIS Faculty Center to create their Canvas courses. Information Technology Services received numerous requests from instructors to automate the process. To accommodate instructors’ needs, all courses will now be automatically created in Canvas beginning with the Fall 2015 semester. Courses already created manually in Canvas by instructors will not be overwritten.

Because Fall 2015 is the last semester to use K-State Online Classic, production resources have not been allocated to automate course creation in Classic. Instructors teaching in Classic will need to follow the same procedure as in previous semesters to manually create their courses for the final semester of use.

To learn more about the automated course creation in Canvas, view the Create Course webpage.

To learn more about Canvas training opportunities, view the training page on the K-State Online powered by Canvas website. Remember, all K-State courses need to be upgraded to K-State Online powered by Canvas by Dec. 31.
