K-State Mediasite webinar series continues this fall

Mediasite logoInformation Technology Services continues the Mediasite webinar training series this fall with three new topics highlighting powerful features offered through Mediasite. Faculty will learn simple tips and tricks for using Mediasite, including the difference between Mediasite channels and shared folders, and how to leverage in-video quizzes to foster active learning in the online classroom.

Each 30-minute program is scheduled on a Monday at 10 a.m. and offered through Zoom.

KSIS Class Scheduler training available for Fall 2019

KSIS Class Scheduler training is now available for sign up in HRIS. Sessions are designed for employees new to the Class Scheduler process as well as refreshers for employees who have previously updated class schedules.

Topics include:

  • Printing the Class Schedule report
  • Updating room locations
  • Updating instructors
  • Updating the section status
  • Other course related details

All sessions are held in 306 Calvin Hall.  The dates and times for the Class Scheduler sessions are:

New Class Scheduler

  • Mon., Sept. 23, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Tues., Sept. 24, 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Class Scheduler Tools (NEW)

  • Mon., Sept. 30, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Tues., Oct. 1, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Class Scheduler Refresher

  • Fri., Oct. 4, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Registration through HRIS is required. See Using HRIS to register for classes. If the current dates and times do not match your schedule, contact Fred Darkow at fdarkow@ksu.edu for more options.

September 16: Respondus LockDown Browser demo and discussion

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment in Canvas. It is available for Mac, Windows, Apple iPad and can be configured to work in a lab setting as well as personal computers. Students are unable to copy, print, access other applications, or visit other websites during an online exam.

Instructors can choose an option in Canvas Quizzes to require Respondus LockDown Browser and students will be prompted to launch the LockDown Browser when they attempt the quiz. Some options such as allowing a calculator to open are available. 

Information Technology Services, the College of Business, and the College of Veterinary Medicine are partnering with Respondus to host a demo of Respondus Lock Down Browser followed by a panel discussion about how it is being used at K-State.  

The event will be 1:30-3:00 p.m., Monday, September 16 in room BB3112, College of Business.

  • 2:15-3:00 p.m. – Panel discussion/hands-on training

August 23: Coffee and Conversation with IT and Global Campus staff

Come get your technology questions answered during Coffee and Conversation from 9-10 a.m., August 23 in the Konza Room, K-State Student Union.

Coffee and Conversation

IT and Global Campus staff will be available to answer your questions about technical tools, applications, provide assistance with a Canvas course, share the online course checklist and more. Come early and stay late. Get your questions answered prior to the start of classes.

ETDR walk-in sessions

The summer semester deadline for submitting ETDRs (electronic theses, dissertations, and reports) to the Graduate School is 5 p.m., Friday, August 16.  All ETDRs must be submitted as PDFs through the K-REx repository system.

Walk-in ETDR help sessions are scheduled August 5-16:

  • Monday, August 5 – 5-7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 6 – 1-3 p.m.
  • Friday, August 9 – 3-5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 14 – 3-5 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 15 – 6-8 p.m.
  • Friday, August 16 – 3-5 p.m.

All sessions are in the Media Center (MC) in Seaton Hall, Room 1 (basement level). The MC has Windows and Mac computers, scanners, Microsoft Office Suite, and Acrobat Pro software. MC consultants are available to help with  PDF-conversion issues.

CRM Town Hall July 30

Registration opens Thursday, July 18, for the third CRM Town Hall meeting. The Town Hall is 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, in the College of Business Administration, Room 4061.

The Town Hall will start with a 30-minute CRM project status update. This part of the meeting is open to everyone via Zoom and does not require registration. Go to k-state.edu/crm/town-hall for the Zoom ID. You will need to use your eID and password to view this page.

The next part of the meeting will focus on business processes and requires registration. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their use of a CRM system for undergraduate recruitment. Individuals can evaluate what is currently working and not working in their recruitment processes. Please be aware these are different sessions than the previous Town Hall, but we welcome new and past participants.

Save the date: CRM town halls scheduled June 26, July 18, July 30

The Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) search committee is finalizing the contracts for a new CRM vendor for student recruitment. The committee will soon be announcing the new vendor.

The next step in the CRM process is to conduct Town Hall meetings to discuss business processes and implementation planning. The College of Business Administration, Room 4061, will host all Town Hall meetings on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, June 26, 1-3 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 18, 10 a.m.-noon
  • Tuesday, July 30, 1-3 p.m.

Betsy Edwards retires on June 30

Betsy EdwardsElizabeth “Betsy Edwards retires on June 30 after more than 40 years of professional service to Kansas State University.  

Throughout her career, Betsy has served as a friend and colleague to many K-Staters, including IT and communications staff.  All are invited to a reception honoring her career 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, in 146 Unger Complex (rooms G & H). Deputy CIO for Emerging Technology and Innovation

""The search committee for the Deputy CIO for Emerging Technology and Innovation has invited Mr. Scott Finkeldei to interview for the position.  Mr. Finkeldei will present an open forum on the topic of:  “Roadmap for the Development of True Technology Innovation in Higher Education” at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, in 146 G&H Unger Complex.
