Creating a sorting activity in SoftChalk LessonBuilder 3

SoftChalk LessonBuilder is an authoring tool that helps create digital learning objects for e-learning. This will provide an overview of how to create a Sorting Activity.

A Sorting Activity allows a learner to organize or categorize information according to their understanding. It allows them to practice this for as long as he or she needs.

Start the software.  Go to the menu bar  and select Insert, Activity, and then Sorting.

Creating a seek-a-word activity in SoftChalk LessonBuilder 3

SoftChalk LessonBuilder is an authoring tool that helps create digital learning objects for e-learning.  This will provide an overview of how to create a “Seek a Word” activity.

A “Seek a Word” activity is a typical “word find” experience.  This is a light way of helping learners to memorize spelling and terminology.

Start up the SoftChalk LessonBuilder program.  Go to Insert, select Activity, and then Seek a Word.

Creating an ordering activity in SoftChalk LessonBuilder 3

SoftChalk LessonBuilder is an authoring tool that helps create digital learning objects for e-learning. This will provide an overview of how to create an Ordering Activity, which is where learners will practice the order of steps in a process.

Once you have opened the software program, go to the menu bar and select Insert, then  Activity, and then Ordering.

Creating a labeling activity in SoftChalk LessonBuilder 3

SoftChalk LessonBuilder is an authoring tool that helps create web-based digital learning objects for e-learning. This will provide an overview of how to create a labeling activity.

A labeling activity allows learners to drag and drop labels onto an image to label the various parts.

Open this software program. Click Insert, then select Activity and then Labeling.

From the 50 minute lecture to a 60-second microlecture: Food for thought

As the semester winds down and before TEVALS provide one view of how the semester went, take some time to think about what you would have done differently this semester, were the lectures well-received, did the assessments fit the learning objectives, were class projects worth the time and effort? Would shorter lectures have met the same learning objective and enhanced opportunities for interactivity, collaborative learning, etc?

For food for thought on rethinking the lecture read the Chronicle of Higher Education article entitled, “These lectures are gone in 60 seconds.” The author, David Shieh, might spark some thoughts on revamping how you teach.

A Hot Spot taps into spatial understandings by having a learner look at an image or a map and learn about different regions.

After you have started the SoftChalk LessonBuilder software, go to Insert -> Activity -> Hot Spot

IDT Roundtable April 16: Social Media

The last IDT Roundtable session this semester is 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in Room 212 of the K-State Student Union.

Every day there seems to be something new on the Web designed to connect people in exciting, innovative ways. Come join iTAC staffers Kevin Champion, technology information specialist, and Ben Ward, instructional designer, as they take a wild journey exploring everything from Facebook to Twitter. Be prepared to jump into the discussion of new ideas, old fears, and where the future might take us.

IDT Roundtable March 26: Wiki Mania

Come to the IDT Roundtable session 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in Room 212 of the K-State Student Union to learn more about wikis.

Wikis are changing how we see and use information. Visit with Roger McHaney, professor in Management; Bronwyn Fees, associate professor in Family Studies and Human Services; Linda Yarrow, assistant professor with Human Nutrition; Angela Chauncey, applications manager in OME; and David Bollman, system specialist in iTAC, as they take us on a tour of their wikis, both in the classroom and the professional setting. They will share their experiences, the high points, the low points, and everything in between. Bring your questions to ask our panel of experts!
