“In Kansas, hay trade activity remains sluggish, with spots moderate. Movement is spurred primarily by local sales and old contracts. Demand remains light to moderate for all hay types with dairy and grinding alfalfa slowing slightly. Prices remain steady. Hay supplies of all types remain moderate to plentiful, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Feb. 16. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.”
North Central/ Northeast
Dairy/grinding alfalfa, prairie hay and brome steady. Movement increased for dairy/grinding alfalfa, slower for ground and delivered. Horse/goat alfalfa, $250-$300; supreme dairy, $.90-$1/point RFV, $175-$210, premium, $160-$180. Good stock cow, $100-$120. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $70-$80, utility/fair, large rounds, $55-$60; ground and delivered, $105-$120. Good bluestem grass hay, small squares, $5/bale or $6/bale delivered, $100-$130/ton, medium squares, $70-$90, mostly, $70, large rounds, $55-$70; fair, $50-$55. Brome, good, small squares, $7/bale, $120-$145/ton, medium squares, $100-$120, large rounds, $25-$50/bale, $60-$70/ton, mostly $60, fair, $50-$60. Good straw, small squares, $4/bale or $5/bale delivered, large squares, $60-$80/ton, large rounds, $60-$75. Good sudan, large rounds, $60-$65.
