  1. Timeliness of email delivery should be a priority. Any time an alert is issued, it’s at least 10 minutes before it shows up in my inbox, if it arrives at all. Also, it’s very hard to read the LED screen on the Alertus stations with the annoying red LED lights flashing around it.

    1. Thanks for comments Mr. Grimwood. Part to the email delay is because the distribution servers have to send mass e-mails in waves because the message is going to thousands of people. The servers are also sending normal e-mail traffic which also prevents immediate simultaneous delivery of e-mail. This is why non-emergency mass e-mails like K-State Today are sent in the early morning when server traffic is at its lowest.

Since we can’t change the way in which e-mails are delivered we also send the alerts via voice calls, text, alert beacons, and social media. By using multiple messaging methods we increase the chances of people receiving the message in a timely fashion. We recommend people sign up for text messages via K-State Connect as this is the fastest way we can get the message directly to people. If you need assistance enrolling for text messages detailed instructions are available at: https://www.k-state.edu/police/alerts/Update.html.
