Community-Engaged Leadership Certificate Program Launches

This semester marks the launch of our Community-Engaged Leadership Certificate program! This partnership between the Staley School of Leadership Studies and Points of Light is a 1-year, 12-credit hour undergraduate certificate, offered to students using a virtual format.

The work of the 2017 inaugural cohort will be themed around education’s role in strengthening democracy and developing engaged citizens. The theme provides an opportunity for each cohort member to develop, evaluate, and implement innovative ideas within the context of education. While working within this common theme, students will contribute to the collective learning of the cohort while pursuing solutions to their communities’ unique challenges and focusing on their personal leadership development. As a result, students will develop group communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.

As students in the certificate program close the gap between theory and practice, they will collaborate with Community Coaches who have practical experience working within communities. Fellows will meet regularly with their coaches to receive insight and guidance. This also provides the coaches the opportunity to hone their own mentoring and leadership coaching skills. Scholarships for the program were made possible through the generous support of the AT&T Foundation.
