Wildcat Mini-Dialogues: Let’s Talk About It

My story, your story, our story text on collage Zoom screen shots

Last fall more than 950 first-year K-State students and 100 volunteer facilitators gathered for Wildcat Dialogues. This intercultural learning and leadership development event’s design centers on providing a space for meaningful dialogue and connection as we work to create a community of belonging for all.

Using and incorporating story-telling as a K-State cultural practice, My Story, Your Story, Our Story helps us to build relationships, focus on mutual understanding, and build unity.

In April, we invite all K-State students to join us in continued dialogue through two sessions called “Let’s Talk About It.” Participants will receive a Wildcat Dialogues face mask.

Let’s Talk About It: Reacting to Hate Crimes
Noon-1:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 14
Registration due noon Tuesday, April 13

In this facilitated dialogue session, students have the opportunity to discuss current events of the past month that include recent hate crimes against Asian Americans and other people with historically excluded identities.

Offered in-person and via Zoom. Upon confirmation of registrations, students will receive the Zoom link for the virtual or the face to face, depending on preference. In-person sessions will take place in room 204-205 at the Morris Family Multicultural Student Center.

Let’s Talk About It: What’s in a Name?
4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20
Registration due noon Monday, April 19

Join Jaime Mendez III, K-State alumnus and former football player, as he shares his story and journey in reclaiming his identity through his name. He will share important perspectives about growing up as an American Latino who navigates living between cultures and the pressure to fit in versus owning your story. Participants will engage in dialogue around the power of language, differences between fitting in and belonging, and owning your identity.

Offered in-person and via Zoom. After registrations are confirmed, students will receive the zoom link for the virtual or the face to face, depending on preference. In-person sessions will take place in room 204-205 at the Morris Family Multicultural Student Center.

  1. Hello,

I am not a student. I’m in International Programs and I have two ksu grads, my daughters who are half Asian American. I would like to join the first dialogue. I started the registration but it seems to be for students only. I will complete the registration but please let me know if you prefer to have students only.

  2. Dr. Earles,
I am not sure why you think it’s only for students. When asked to identify yourself, it does ask if you are faculty or staff. Please register.
