Sahiba Grover, 2020 graduate of Kansas State University and alumnae of the Edgerley-Franklin (E-F) Leadership scholarship program, was recently featured in The Collective, a newsletter of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Grover is a student in UMKC’s physician assistant program.
The E-F program is a competitive scholarship program at K-State for students who are passionate about working with underserved communities in the pursuit of equity and justice. In accordance with the E-F mission, Scholars have the opportunity to travel to urban centers to learn more about challenges facing underserved communities and the ways in which individuals and organizations are practicing leadership to create change.
During her time in the E-F program, Sahiba traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, and gained insight into disparities in healthcare.
“While on a service-learning trip to St. Louis, I learned of the struggles marginalized communities face with lack of access to adequate healthcare and was inspired to use these skills,” said Grover.
She is now applying what she learned in the E-F program to her advocacy as an emerging healthcare professional. As stated in her spotlight, “she would love to see an integrated approach to medicine that embraces the individuality of patients.”
