Priest recognized at leadership conference for outstanding teaching

Kerry Priest, Ph.D., associate professor in the Staley School of Leadership, was awarded the 2022 Peter Northouse Outstanding Teaching Award at the Association of Leadership Educators (ALE) Annual Conference on June 27, in Kansas City, Missouri. This award recognizes an ALE member for their contribution to advancing leadership education through outstanding teaching and learning. Criteria for this award included demonstrating effective and innovative classroom teaching, non-instructional practice, and the pursuit of professional development.Kerry Priest holding award certificate

Priest’s journey as a leadership educator extends over 25 years, from early roles as a peer educator and leadership trainer, to work in the leadership industry, and for the last 14 years in higher education. Priest is beginning her 11th year as a faculty member in the Staley School, where she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on leadership theory and practice. She recently took on the role of director of the interdisciplinary leadership communication doctoral program. She has also served as the faculty coordinator of K-State’s co-curricular Graduate Student Leadership Development professional development program for the past seven years.

Dr. Priest’s nominators noted her attention to culturally responsive pedagogical approaches, commitment to producing scholarship that informs – and is informed by – her teaching, and intentional approaches to collaboration.
