Save the date! The fall 2024 Wildcat Dialogues will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the K-State Student Union. The committee is seeking volunteers to help with planning and promotions, facilitators for small group discussions, and students to share their stories at the event.
Wildcat Dialogues is an event for all first-year students at Kansas State University. Participants come together in small groups for a facilitated discussion that focuses on curiosity, sharing personal stories, and listening to learn together as they begin their journey within our diverse campus community. Wildcat Dialogues is designed to encourage meaningful dialogue across differences to help create communities of belonging at K-State.
K-State faculty, staff and students are invited to serve on the planning committee and serve as facilitators for the seventh Wildcat Dialogues
The committee will meet once a week starting in August until the event. We will work together to organize and promote the event, and recruit and train small group facilitators. Wildcat Dialogues would not be possible without the collaboration of many campus partners and students. In 2023, nearly 40 members of the K-State campus community contributed to planning the event.
This event depends on the input, expertise, and experiences of our students, staff, and faculty from across all areas of the university to succeed, and having an engaged team to plan helps us to impact hundreds of first-year students each year.
Additionally, facilitators for small groups are needed. Facilitators help the small groups focus on deliberate conversation to build intentional connections for intercultural learning and leadership development. All facilitators will receive training prior to the event.
To join the planning committee or to inquire for more information, please fill out the interest survey form or email Tamara Bauer at tamara@ksu.edu or Mariya Vaughan at mbjv@ksu.edu.
K-State students are also encouraged to share their stories as part of the event
Submit your story for Wildcat Dialogues!
As a feature of this event, a panel of students will be selected to share a public story of their K-State experience. We invite you to consider sharing YOUR K-State story with new Wildcats.
How have your identities, background, and life experience influenced your experience in the K-State community? What has challenged you, stretched your understanding of the world, or helped you to recognize ways in which we could all be a more inclusive K-State family?
Selected students will work with faculty and staff to cultivate leadership, presentation, and storytelling skills. Others may be contacted to share personal experiences as Wildcat Dialogues facilitators and presenters at additional events.
To share your story, complete this short form by Monday, April 22. Students will be contacted by our committee members for additional information. If their stories are selected, they will be guided through a process to prepare for the Wildcat Dialogues event, which includes filming the story by the end of August.
Wildcat Dialogues is coordinated in partnership between the Staley School of Leadership, K-State First, the K-State Student Union, and Student Belonging and Inclusion, alongside a large committee representing students, faculty, and staff. This collaboration represents the commitment by our campus community to create a culture of belonging for all.
