Going global in e-learning has often meant using the global language of interchange: English. However, as e-learning has reached into ever more complex marketplaces, the need to translate some materials into first languages has become even more important.
Machine translations of language are limited, with awkward syntax, confusing colloquialisms, and sometimes very funny turns of phrases.
SoftChalk LessonBuilder 5 has a feature which changes the directions for how to interact with its various learning objects and activities.
First, open SoftChalk LessonBuilder 5. In the Menu Bar, go to Properties, then Output Language. The choices are currently Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
The translation only affects the directions for the learning objects created by SoftChalk LessonBuilder 5. The original contents of the learning materials in the learning contents are not translated.
Some translated directions for a slideshow follow below (back to front) in Chinese, German, Russian, Japanese, and Spanish. These seem to be pre-translated directions built into the software.
The language of the developed contents will be in the original, though.
