What Matters to Me and Why: David Ollington

The Staley School of Leadership invites students, staff and faculty to the What Matters to Me and Why leadership lecture featuring David Ollington, academic advisor for the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work (SASW). The lecture will take place noon to 1 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the Leadership Studies Building Town Hall and on Zoom. Lunch from Mr. Goodcents will be provided.

RSVPs are due by noon Wednesday, March 1.

A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, Ollington holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in humanities and theatre from Kansas State University. He has a Master of Fine Arts degree in modern dance from Texas Christian University. In addition to his work as an advisor, he is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at K-State in social sciences. He is the 2017 recipient of Distinguished Professor of the year from the K-State LGBTQ+ Resource Center. Ollington is an Associate Professor Emeritus for K-State’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. He’s choreographed and directed at K-State, Manhattan Arts Center, the Columbian Theatre in Wamego, and several professional theatres in the Kansas City area. He also staged productions at Manhattan High School where he was a para professional educator working with special needs students, an activity that led to him choreographing for Barrier-Free Theatre, K-State’s Theatre troupe for actors with and without disabilities.

He will present The Power of Words. Incorporating anecdotes, Ollington will offer an experience about creativity, especially around the impact our words have on others.

RSVP by noon Wednesday, March 1. (In-person and Zoom available)

This informal lunchtime series supports K-State’s Principles of Community by encouraging reflection on matters of personal values, beliefs and motivations to better understand the lives and inspirations of those who serve and shape the university.

Our series is sponsored by the Staley School of Leadership, and supported by a cross-campus planning committee.
