Spring ’21 lineup for What Matters to Me and Why

The Staley School of Leadership Studies announces two upcoming What Matters to Me and Why presentations.

These lectures take place from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom, and feature stories about the speakers’ journeys – how they have chosen to live their life, the core values they have adopted, the personal choices they have made and lessons they have learned.

Dr. Debra Bolton, director, Intercultural Learning and Academic Success, will present “Life-Long Learning to Find Common Ground” on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Dr. Bolton will remember her father and his advice, “Know something about everything and everything about something, and you will always be able to find common ground with another person.”  In this talk, she will describe her penchant for music, literature, geography, art, and people, which inform her work in intercultural development.

Chief Ronnie Grice, assistant vice president, Division of Public Safety, and Dr. Cheryl Grice, director of strategic relations, will present their story Thursday, April 15.

Chief Grice and Dr. Grice will share some of the life lessons they found to be the most inspiring on their journeys thus far in life. Personal and professional experiences work together to shape a person’s and a couple’s views on leadership. Hear how managing change, balancing work and family life, serving others and facing pivotal moments have enriched both of their careers and their family life.

This informal lunchtime series supports K-State’s Principles of Community by encouraging reflection on matters of personal values, beliefs and motivations to better understand the lives and inspirations of those who serve and shape the university.

This series is sponsored by the Staley School of Leadership Studies and supported by the College of Education, College of Architecture, Planning and Design, Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies at K-State Libraries, and the College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee.
