Welcome to Week 2 of the 2015 Prepare Kansas online challenge! If you feel like you might have gotten a slow start during Week 1, don’t worry. You have the entire month to complete the Challenge.
Challenge activities for September 7 – 13 are to:
- plan and practice a family/workplace tornado drill, and
- complete your emergency supply kit.
Check the blog throughout the week — we will continue to post helpful information about how to accomplish each of the challenge tasks.
Re: whistle as mentioned previously. A whistle is essential b/c
its sound will be heard more distinctly than the cry out for help by a human.
Another example is that children should always carry a whistle in case they
become lost. I carry my whistle on my car’s key chain or if traveling without a car, I attach it to the zipper on my coat.
Re: identifying dogs in an emergency situation: don’t forget to have your
pets micro-chipped. Pets cannot talk – a micro chip may save your pet from going to a rescue or shelter.
Re: my car – I fill up the gas tank at the 1/2 point level every time
(vs. waiting until near empty) so that I always have more than enough gas.
