Traveling during the holidays?

Are you traveling by car during the holidays? Before you hit the road, take a few minutes to get prepared. Do these things:

The Ready Campaign is a national public service campaign designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to promote preparedness through public involvement. Many campaign resources are available at ready.gov Many of them are available in languages other than English. #FloodSafety– Know these #Wx Alert Terms

#Floods are the most common natural disaster in the U.S.

Timely info on weather conditions like a flood can make a big difference. Sign up for local alerts & warnings and review the following terms.

A flood watch means “Be Aware” because conditions are right for flooding to occur in your area.

A flood warning means “Take Action!” because flooding is either happening or will happen shortly.

A flash flood warning means flooding is occurring. Seek higher ground immediately. Listen to local officials.

Keep your communication ON when the power’s OFF with a hand-crank radio, solar or car phone charger and batteries.

As we enter the new year, #ResolvetobeReady for emergencies or disasters. As with any goal or resolution, breaking it down into manageable actions is a key to success. Start with one thing. For example, have external power sources available to charge phones and other devices in case of a power outage.
