K-Staters in the residence halls and Jardine Apartments who are bringing a computer, gaming device, or wireless handheld device to K-State are required to complete K-State’s network-access process before their computing device will be permitted on the network. This includes access to both Ethernet and wireless connections. The Bradford system has been reset for this semester; all new and returning residents must complete the process, even if they registered in the fall. The re-registration process allows residents the chance to check and make sure that their operating system and antivirus software is up-to-date since leaving last December.
If security updates have been maintained properly on a computer, the re-registration process will be completed in a timely manner. The process will be longer for those residents bringing new computing devices that were not registered last fall. Overall, this re-registration helps to secure the residence-hall network against mass virus outbreaks and other security threats that can directly impact academic and social computing.
Residents can expect this registration process to take place at the beginning of each semester. For more information, review ResNet’s Network Registration webpage. For questions, contact the ResNet Help Desk at 785-532-2711, e-mail resnet@k-state.edu, or visit Derby 133A.
