Several enhancements were made to Canvas during the winter break. Highlights are listed below. To see all the new features and fixed bugs in Canvas, view the Canvas Release Notes.
The following enhancements have been made in Canvas:
- New Quizzes — Instructors can use New Quizzes to create assessments using a variety of question types. New Quizzes assessments display as assignments on the Assignments page and can be duplicated. Some functionality is not yet available with New Quizzes, including remote proctoring support and Scantron; instructors will need to continue using Quizzes for those features. Instructors can use Quizzes and New Quizzes together within the same course.
- Student Assignment Enhancement — Supported student assignments display an improved interface and submission workflow. This change improves the student experience in completing and submitting assignments, viewing rubrics, and locating instructor feedback. For full details, view the Student Assignment Enhancement document.
- Student View — The Student View feature on the home page of courses has moved from a text button on the right side of the page to an eyeglasses icon located at the page’s upper right-hand side. With Student View, you can view a course the same way that your students view the course.
- Microsoft Immersive Reader — The Microsoft Immersive Reader enhances your reading experience by improving accessibility and boosting reading comprehension. Microsoft Immersive Reader is only available when using Pages in Canvas.
- Microsoft Teams — Microsoft Teams Meetings are now available for instructors in Canvas. This feature is only available for Meetings; other Microsoft Teams options like Files and OneNote are not available. Instructors can schedule or launch Meetings from the Rich Content Editor. This feature is not available for students.
- New Rich Content Editor — The New Rich Content Editor, is an update to the previous Canvas Rich Content Editor. It provides a condensed, more intuitive toolbar that is grouped by common icons and interactions. To learn more about the New Rick Content Editor, view the video below.
