October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a global effort to help everyone stay safe and protected when using technology whenever and however you connect.

The Division of Information Technology will be promoting key behaviors to encourage everyone to take control of their online lives.

There are all kinds of ways to stay safe and secure online, but even just practicing a few cybersecurity basics can make a huge difference:

While most cybersecurity news articles are about massive data breaches and hackers, it can seem overwhelming and feel like you’re powerless against it. But Cybersecurity Awareness Month reminds everyone that there are all kinds of ways to keep your data protected. It can make a huge difference even by practicing the basics of cybersecurity.

In the coming weeks, we’ll share various tips to help you outsmart cyber threats and protect you, your family, and K-State from online attacks. We encourage you to read and share the information with your colleagues, friends, and family. When everyone takes proactive steps to secure their connected devices, personal and business accounts, and data, we all benefit from a safer and more secure digital world.

We will be promoting the following topics throughout the month:

  • Enabling multi-factor authentication
  • Using strong passwords and a password manager
  • Updating software
  • Recognizing and reporting phishing

When it comes to cybersecurity, knowledge is power. Join us this October in the fight against cybercrime.
