When you start using Microsoft 365 Copilot, it’s ready to jump in by summarizing notes, generating ideas and finding information across your files. But for Copilot to give you its best work, it needs to know a little about you.
That’s where your About Me page comes in. It gives Copilot insight into who you are, what you do and how you like to communicate. The result? Smarter, more natural responses that sound more like you.
Copilot learns context from what you share. When you tell it about your role, background, and goals, it can adjust its tone, suggest better phrasing, and tailor examples that fit your work.
For example, a faculty member might get more academic-style examples, while a communicator could receive more conversational ones. Your About Me page helps bridge that gap, which turns Copilot into a more personal and precise assistant.
How to create your About Me Page in Copilot
- Open Copilot Chat.
- On the left navigation, click Create.
- Click Blank document.
- Name your page About Me.
- Keep it short and natural.
- Write like you’re introducing yourself to a new coworker. Use headings or bullet points so Copilot can scan your details easily.
- Refresh it as you grow.
- Update your page when your projects, responsibilities, or goals change—Copilot learns best from current information.
What to Include
- Describe Your Role: Start with the basics: your job title, department, and a short summary of what you do.
- Share Your Background: Give Copilot context about your experience so it can better tailor its tone and suggestions.
- Highlight Your Interests and Strengths: Mention what energizes you at work and the tools or topics you love exploring.
- Describe your goals: Let Copilot know what you’re working toward. It can help you brainstorm and refine ideas that align with your priorities.
- Add a Personal Touch: A hint of personality helps Copilot mirror your tone. Share something that reflects who you are outside of work.
Writing style tips
Microsoft’s writing principles—clarity, conciseness, and empathy—are your best guide when writing your About Me page. Keep these in mind:
- Be authentic. Copilot understands natural language, so write the way you speak.
- Keep it brief. A few short paragraphs or bullet points are enough.
- Be specific. Mention actual tools, skills, or goals—Copilot uses these cues to personalize responses.
- Use your voice. If you prefer conversational or formal phrasing, write it that way. It helps Copilot match your tone in replies.
