Six million iPads have been sold in the past six months, said Dennis Devenney at the Oct. 7 iPad presentation at TechBytes. K-Staters interested in learning more about Apple’s popular iPad can now view the iPad video presentation (76 minutes), where Devenney covers:
- iPad setups, features, and security
- Social aspects (is it a fad? Apple and Google are betting “no”)
- Comparisons with similar technology now on the market (or coming soon)
- Applications and productivity tools
- Initial costs and recommended peripherals
- How the iPad fits in education
and answers to many questions from the audience.
Devenney noted the next iPad version (May-June 2011) will have a camera, but he doesn’t recommend waiting for that if people are planning to purchase an iPad.
Relatedly, an iPad User Group has been formed to explore “their use as tools for productivity, creativity, photography, reference, reading, entertainment, and social networking”, according to the College of Education’s Catalyst newsletter. The next meeting is noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in 16E Bluemont Hall. iPad users as well as those who are interested but do not yet have an iPad are invited to attend.
