Growing list of e-mail scams gets separate webpage

More than 60 e-mail scams have arrived at K-State in the past four months. Last May, the university began tracking and posting scams to the IT security homepage to serve as a reference for the campus community. On Sept. 25, the growing list of scams was moved to a page of its own. E-mail scams seen at K-State shows the date each scam arrived, the subject-line text, and a link to the full e-mail version.

The new page also notes basic security guidelines and precautions for e-mail scams:

  1. Learn how to recognize a scam e-mail.
  2. If you get a scam e-mail, just delete it. (K-State officials have likely seen it.)
  3. Never give your password to anyone in an e-mail under any circumstances.
  4. Follow scam prevention guidelines.
  5. Take fast, immediate steps if you responded to a scam and provided information.

The IT security homepage has been streamlined to list the latest e-mail scams and a link to the complete list.
