(This “IT solutions” series started Jan. 30 to address the latest questions heard at the IT Help Desk, where consultants provide quick answers to the most current technology issues. Their goal is to provide impeccable customer service to the K-State community.)
Have you ever wondered if you’re the only person on campus with a particular computer problem? Got a quick technology question and don’t know who to contact? Perplexed, confused, or frustrated by IT? Rest assured. You are not alone. Contact the IT Help Desk at 785-532-7722 or e-mail helpdesk@k-state.edu.
It’s that time of year again — the dreaded eID password-change period. Common questions such as “What’s the deadline for the spring semester?” (Wednesday, Feb. 8, only a week away) and “What’s the minimum character requirement?” (10) are addressed at Frequently asked questions about eIDs and Frequently asked questions about eID passwords.
Other issues related to changing an eID password
Question: I just changed my password. Now I can’t log in to Zimbra webmail and I’m getting a weird “HTTP 400” error message. What does that mean?
IT Help Desk: The “HTTP 400” lockout error occurs after multiple failed attempts to access your webmail. Most often, this is the result of a password mismatch in a mobile device (iPads, iPods, iPhone, and other smartphones) or e-mail clients (Outlook, MacMail, Thunderbird, Pegasus, etc.).
Solution: First, update all mobile devices and clients that you have configured to retrieve your e-mail with your new password. Then contact the IT Help Desk so the error can be cleared from Zimbra.
Question: I changed my password, now my wireless Internet does not connect on campus. What’s up with that?
IT Help Desk: Both the KSU Wireless and KSU Housing networks require a current eID password to access the Internet. These networks are restricted for use by current faculty, staff, students, and authorized affiliates. XpressConnect is an automated configuration tool that makes it easy to securely connect to K-State’s wireless network.
Solution: Remember to update your password in any electronic device that uses a wireless or wi-fi signal to access the Internet. This may include netbooks, Kindle readers, laptops, desktops, iPads, iPods, iPhones, and other smartphones. To update your password, rerun XpressConnect by going to wireless.k-state.edu/connect.
