Division of IT staff collaborates with EDUCAUSE

EDUCAUSE and HEUG (Higher Education User Group) are prominent partners in promoting higher education through technology. The Division of IT would like to highlight several of our staff members who are participating in various EDUCAUSE and HEUG initiatives throughout 2023:

  • Nick Austin – Data Governance Community Group, Developing and Executing Data Strategy Group
  • Nate Scherman – Project and Change Management Advisory Group
  • Adam Petrea – Business Relationship Management Community Group Advisory
  • Adam Petrea and Ed Puckett– Project Management Community Group Steering Committee

Data Governance Community – this group discusses processes and methods for managing institutional data. Major topics for this group are data privacy and security. The group has monthly meetings and has 1.2k members.

Developing and Executing Data Strategy – this group works closely with the data governance group, focuses on how institutions have implemented effective data management strategies, and shares best practices on utilizing data for decision-making. The group has 1.3k members and recently hosted a Quick Talk on “Comprehensive Data Strategy.”

Project and Change Management Advisory Group – this is an advisory group that focuses on project and change management. Activities include hosting information-sharing webinars, coffee break chats about topics of interest, and contributing to Higher Education User Groups blog posts.

Business Relationship Management Community – this group focuses on accelerating campus partners’ longer-term objectives by seeking opportunities to leverage existing University IT services and working with them to understand how the service portfolio should evolve to support their goals and new initiatives. The group has over 600 members and frequently connects on a message board to discuss the latest hot topics in technology and higher education. Adam is also part of a steering group that is being created and will begin in early 2023.

Project Management Community Group – this group focuses on the management of IT projects in higher education. The group shares best practices and tools for leveraging technology. Topics have included the project intake process, agile project management, IT governance, and the intersection between ITSM and project management. The community maintains a discussion board where members are often found asking for advice on ERP systems, project management tools, and campus intranets. The group has 1.9k members and meets monthly.
