Duo student spring enrollment was a success

During the spring semester, K-State began enrolling students in Duo two-factor authentication. Login credentials are more valuable than ever and are increasingly easy to compromise. Over 90% of breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords.

The Division of Information Technology would like to thank faculty and staff for educating students about the importance of two-factor authentication and reminding them to enroll in Duo.

This was an enormous undertaking for the university and a necessary step for protecting K-State’s tools and services. Like faculty and staff, students use Duo as a second layer of security for the university’s online applications and systems. In addition to their personal information, students use Duo to keep their financial aid and scholarship information safe.

When do students enroll in Duo?

New students will receive their enrollment email at the beginning of the semester. The email includes enrollment instructions and the enrollment deadline. Note: If a student was previously enrolled at K-State but has taken more than two consecutive semesters off, they will lose access to Duo and need to reenroll when returning to K-State.

How do students enroll in Duo?

Once students receive their enrollment email, they will have two weeks to enroll in Duo. The enrollment email includes instructions on how and when to enroll. Enrollment usually takes less than five minutes, and they will need a laptop or desktop computer and mobile device for the self-enrollment process.

When do students lose access to Duo?

Graduating students will lose access to Duo when they leave K-State. Other students who are not graduating will retain access to Duo as long as they are enrolled in K-State. Note: Students will continue to have access to Duo during the summer semester, whether they are taking classes or taking the summer off. However, if students take more than two consecutive semesters off, they will lose access to Duo and need to reenroll when returning to K-State.
