Canvas: New features for the fall semester

Canvas has introduced new features for the fall semester, including improved communication, organization, and multimedia capabilities.

Canvas now allows you to create a signature block for messages you send from your Inbox, similar to an email signature. Another communication feature is sending a notification when you edit a course announcement.

To help with organization, instructors can now assign a module to individual students or sections. The Manage Due Dates and Assign To feature has changed making it easier to assign access to assignments, quizzes and graded discussions. You can now assign pages and ungraded discussions to individual students or sections.

In SpeedGrader, you can record a webcam video, audio or screen capture as a comment on student submissions when using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge as your web browser. If you record audible speech, recordings include captions automatically. Learn more by viewing the Studio Capture guide.

Mediasite will now automatically caption all videos when you upload them. If you upload a video from another source like Zoom that already contains captions, Mediasite will not overite the caption. Always review all automated captions for accuracy.

Mediasite Capture is a browser-based tool to capture your computer’s desktop, webcam and microphone without installing any additional software.

Mediasite Mosaic is installable software you can use to capture your computer’s desktop, webcam and microphone, and it offers some additional functionality beyond the browser-based capture option, like the ability to create watch folders and upload multiple videos.
