IT Update: Jan. 2021

The Division of Information Technology staff is back from the holiday break and diligently preparing for the spring semester.

Our largest project is the opening of Hale Library on Jan. 25 after a 32-month absence. Staff are working on cabling and switching throughout Hale. Public computers and printers are being installed. Furniture installers are building cubicles, and IT staff will begin returning to offices in Hale following COVID-19 guidelines.

Core infrastructure upgrades on the Polytechnic campus will be completed by Jan. 16. This upgrade provides the necessary platform for creating a 10GB campus backbone in future upgrade phases.

In partnership with the Division of Communications and Marketing, after months of planning and testing and as part of the IT strategic plan, IT is in the process of finalizing the migration of K-State web pages to the cloud.

Modo Labs, a mobile app content development tool, will be discontinued. We are working with DCM to transition content developed in Modo Labs to a web page.

 

The deadline for requests for conference room OWLs and laptops was Friday, Jan. 8. Equipment distribution began this week.

Several new Canvas features are now available for Spring 2021, including MicrosoftTeams Meeting integration and New Quizzes.

The Zoom retention schedule has been updated, and Zoom security features have been implemented.

FIS is undergoing a major application upgrade, with rollout slated for December 2021. Concurrently, we are upgrading the FIS Database to 19c with a go-live date slated for March 12-14, 2021.

KSIS and HRIS are undergoing a PeopleTools and Database upgrade, with the upgrade expected between Feb. 26-28, 2021. More information will be posted on our blog site.
