Word 2007 tip: Setting defaults in line and paragraph spacing

With the advent of Word 2007, Microsoft made some “adjustments” to the default look-and-feel of the default documents. For example, each paragraph has a 6-point space after it. How can those be changed?

Let’s say you want to change the after-paragraph spacing to zero spacing. Here’s how:

1. Open a new document in Word 2007.
2. Under the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click the tiny box in the lower right corner. This will open the Paragraph dialog box. Continue reading “Word 2007 tip: Setting defaults in line and paragraph spacing”

iSIS tip: Changing the default Term field

iSIS, K-State’s student information system, allows users the ability to save default values for certain fields to aid in searching or in data entry. One example of this is the Term field, the field used to identify which semester and year an action is to take place.  To set the default value for the Term field, perform the following:

  1. Log into iSIS.
  2. Click Set Up SACR.
  3. Click User Defaults.
  4. Enter the 4-digit code for the appropriate Term timeframe (i.e., Fall 2009 is 2095).
  5. Click Save.

This will have the Term field default to the saved value in searches and data entry, saving a little typing and time in the process.

iTAC to begin Microsoft Office training in August

iTAC is developing training for Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft Excel 2007 to begin in August. To design effective training sessions, we need to know the features that are important to you. Take a few minutes and complete the Microsoft Office Training Needs Survey to let us know which features in the Office Suite you use most and which applications to include in our training offerings.

iSIS Tip #1: adding pages to favorites

You can keep track of multiple pages more easily by incorporating them into your iSIS Favorites.  To do so, navigate within iSIS to the desired page and then in the upper right corner, click the Add to Favorites link.  Enter a Description and then click OK. The page can now be found in the left hand navigation pagelet, under My Favorites

NOTE: It is usually simpler to use the default iSIS name for the page being saved, though you can name it something else short and descriptive.

Faculty: Enter midterm grades in iSIS starting Sept. 29

Faculty can enter midterm grades for new freshmen into iSIS, the new student information system, beginning Monday, Sept. 29, with a due date of Friday, Oct. 3.  Instructions for submitting midterm grades are available on the iSIS Help website.  Training sessions on grading are open and available for enrollment in HRIS (see class WS0029 – iSIS: Grading in iSIS).  For enrollment instructions, see the iSIS training page.

Questions regarding training for iSIS can be sent to Brian Arthaud-Day, student systems training coordinator, bcad@k-state.edu.
