Faculty: Are students having trouble viewing your online course videos?

By Information Technology Services

The fall semester is underway and most students have settled into their courses, but some students may be struggling with viewing online course videos.

If your students are having problems, recommend these troubleshooting tips:

  • Review K-State’s minimum system requirements to make sure their computer is compliant.
  • Run the K-State Online Readiness Test. This test will make sure the Popups blocker setting is correct; the Java and Flash applications are up to date; and Adobe Reader is installed.
  • Test the Internet connection speed. Students can use speedof.me to run a free HTML5-base speedtest that works directly in their browser and iOS, Android, or Windows 8 smartphones without third party plug-ins. The minimum download speed needed for quality viewing of online video is 2Mbps.
  • Try a different browser. Have the student switch to a different browser and try the video again.

If your student is still having trouble they should contact the IT Help Desk. Students can send an email or call 785-532-7722 or 800-865-6143.
