Mediasite: Managing content storage

As the spring semester begins, now is an excellent time to evaluate the content you have uploaded to Mediasite and remove presentations you no longer intend to use. An on-demand Mediasite webinar, Managing Content Storage, will guide you through reviewing a content storage reportarchiving presentations into an offline format, and deleting unneeded or archived Mediasite content.

When reviewing content to download, delete, or archive, please reference the K-State Retention Schedule: most records will likely fall under Course Content Records 0624-367. If you have questions about records retention, please contact the University Records Manager rleimkue@ksu.edu.

As you review your Mediasite presentations, consider removing:

  • Lecture videos no longer being used in Canvas courses
  • Videos with obsolete content
  • Duplicate videos, temporary copies, etc.
  • Test or practice recordings
  • Defunct/non-working presentations
  • Videos that no longer serve a useful purpose

Appropriately managing your Mediasite content storage promotes K-State’s technology resources’ efficient use and helps K-State remain an affordable choice for students.

Consider contacting and donating unique or historically relevant materials to the University Archives; contact Veronica Denison vldenison@ksu.edu for appraisal considerations.

Mediasite is an online video capture, management, and playback system, much like YouTube but with more features, better security, with easy integration into Canvas. Mediasite enables faculty to offer digital media-enriched content to their students. For more information, or to watch previous Mediasite webinars, go to k-state.edu/mediasite.
